Our daughters are about to start at new daycares. The baby has been home with either my husband or me for all 10 months of her life. Now, not only will they both be out of the house, but they won't even be together (we can't afford to have them both in the same place). I'm sick over it and I don't know what to do to make it easier on them!

Oh I know how you feel, I absolutely hate sending my kids to preschool, but they go for some socialisation one day per week and love it..... I am not looking forward to them starting "big school" LOL

My only advice to you is to talk about it LOTS before you actually take them... tell them about the wonderful school they are going to, how much fun it will be, how you will be leaving them to discover lots of fun things and you will be back after they have had their play time....

Do this even with your 10 month old, they understand so much of what we say. At least if you have all been talking about it, and getting excited over it, then believe it or not, I think it makes it so much easier for them to feel comfortable when the time comes...

Good luck, keep us posted on how it all goes Smile

My heart aches for you. My daughter went to a program when she was about 2 while I was working on PhD. She was only there for about 5 hours on 2 days per week. She was there for about 6 months then I decided to take a break.

One thing I would suggest is volunteer in their rooms. My daughter is now almost 5 and is in preschool so I have been volunteering in her classroom. The teacher said it really helps with the transition.

And my other advice would be that when you are with them, make sure it is quality time. They will be more securely attached if they get all of you some of the time (I know I struggle with that and I am home with my kids 90% of the time).

Good luck. Give lots of hugs and kisses.

Thanks for the tips...quality time is definitely hard to come by. I notice that when we all get home at night, it's time to make dinner, then bathe, then bed.... I feel like I barely see them!
