Having a bit of a problem with my little darling. He is suspected of having Autistic spectrum disorder and attends a special assessment and development unit 4 mornings a week and then nursery for the afternoons.
This unit is one to one attention but he is with children who have problems of their own.
His only peer group influence are the 3 & 4 years old at afternoon nursery
Over the last few weeks his behaviour is going downhill and I'm at my wits end, he is becoming stroppy, refusing to do as he is told, ignoring me when I call him and being downright spiteful!
He has also stopped using the toilet and is soiling himself daily.
I have tried every technique I know to nip this behaviour in the bud but it seems to be getting worse.
Is this normal behaviuor for a 5 year old? Is he just seeing how far he go?
HELP!!!!

Oh mickysmum you poor thing. Sadly I don't have much advice for you, I have a hard time trying to bring my 2 year old into line, she drives me insane....... Is there someone at the special development unit who you can talk to? Perhaps they can give you some techniques that might be useful?
Good luck _________________ "Dance like nobody is watching, Sing like nobody is listening - and hope for their sake they aren't!!!!" |

| My goodness! This really doesn't sound like normal five year old behavior! I would be especially concerned about him soiling himself so often. This is sometimes a sign of something much more serious. I would ask a LOT of questions of anyone who is caring for him...especially anyone new. Has he been especially anxious lately? Have there been any significant changes in his routine? |

I would say that to a certain extent, I can relate. My four-year-old daughter was an absolute angel (my two-year-old son is very... um... curious!). At about 4, she started becoming very independent and stubborn (I have NO IDEA where she gets it )
But the soiling himself is what makes me concerned.
Is it happening all the time? We only have a breakdown like that every couple of days and usually it is because she doesn't get what she wants. But she is learning now that not only does she not get what she wanted originally, but she eventually gets something else or another privilege taken away! |
