While you are having story time with your toddler try to use your finger to guide along the page. This will show your toddler how it is you are reading those words on the page. Your toddler will see that reading has an order and that words also have an order! This will help them learn how to read and will also help them put together what you are saying to what is written on the page. The more that your toddler sees a word the more likely they are to remember and understand it!

We have always done this with our boys, and you are right! They can recognize letters and words at a very early age. Good advice!

We do this too (another bonus is that it prevents him from turning the pages prematurely - which he LOVES to do)! :)

That's exactly how my daughter is learning to read in kindergarten. They call it crispy pointing. It really works!
