I had a question about baby blues. This is not something that I know a lot about because I did not suffer from it. I do know that it is normal to have mood swings and things like that up to about 10 days after your baby is born and if it goes on longer than that you might have postpartum depression. It is treatable and it is normally treated with therapy and possible antidepressants. Here are some symptoms that I have located about postpartum depression.
  • Loss of pleasure in life
  • Not wanting to eat as much
  • Don't feel motivated to do things, Not a lot of energy
  • Trouble falling asleep, and then trouble staying asleep
  • Sleeping more than usual
  • Crying more and getting teary often
  • Feeling worthless, hopeless or overly guilty
  • Feeling restless, irritable or anxious
  • Losing or gaining weight and not knowing why
  • Feeling as though you shouldn't be here
  • Thinking about hurting yourself
  • Scared you will hurt your baby
If you fear that you may have these symptoms go to the Dr and get help. You are worth it.

The only baby blues I suffered was when I was supposed to leave the hospital with my first born. I just didn't want to leave. I was too afraid to have to take care of her myself. Everything turned out fine, though!

I had severe post partum depression. It was a like living a nightmare or in a horror movie. It's always good to see people spreading the word about it because I had almost no support when I had it. Also, I found that there is an unfortunate stigma attached to it and it can be a hushed subject in some circles.

I never experienced any post-partum depression. With the second kid, I was in law school and my father was dying. I didn't have time to be depressed, aside from dealing with my life circumstances. I just had to keep going which is probably partly what saved me.
