Something that I have started to do with Alex and his toys are that if I notice it has been about month or so without playing with a toy, then I take it to children who I know will use them or to goodwill. It really works, for now because he is so young, but I am going to keep doing this so that when he is older he wont tell me "no". I have noticed that kids like to keep their toys even if they don't play with them, as I'm sure Alex will try to when he gets older, but for now it works! If you decide to try this, you will be surprised at how many toys that your baby doesn't play with, I know I was!!

We rotate our toys (as well donate them) so that the kids do not get "bored" and have a fresh perspective on old toys.

Like chelle, we rotated toys too. Sometimes we donate them as well. But we found that rotating them works really well.

I rotate when they are toys that he plays with. I was talking about when he is just too big for the toys. For example, a baby rattle. I'm afraid that if I wait to long to donate them he will want to keep everything!

Some things, like my children's teething rings, rattles, etc. I've kept in a big cedar chest (it's lost it's smell) that we use for blanket, etc. storage. And, throughout the years, I'd keep a particularly favorite toy or two. But the way we "recycled" toys was, every year about a month or two before Christmas, we'd clean out the house (I'd clean out some closets and our children would clean out their toys) and donate these things to underprivileged children. They loved the idea of being able to help someone and we never had any trouble with this kind of "toy recycling."

Well, certain toys do get boring quite soon, so i always choose kinds of toy full of challenge or exploring. Recently, i brought my son a "sourcingmap night vision binoculars" and he really love it. i think it is gonna last longer .
