I recommend the book Super Baby Food to learn more about how your baby should be eating.

I've been devouring this book since I got it and I'll pass along some of the information I've learned from it here on toddler portion sizes which is a very important subject as you do not want to feed your child too much nor should you feed him or her too little.

It's a good idea to make your toddler's food portions sizes equal to 1 to 2 tablespoons of food for each year of the child's age. For example a 2 year old should get 2 to 4 tablespoons, and a 3 year old should get 3 to 6 tablespoons, and a 1 1/2 year old should get a 1 1/2 to 3 tablespoon portion. If you cannot measure a particuler food by tablespoon give your child anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of an adult's portion size.

This information on toddler portion sizes is just one example of the great info on proper baby food nutrition that fills the pages of Super Baby Food.

I completely disagree with this amount in tablespoons for your child.

First of all, your child will let you know how much they need. If you watch the signs of your baby, you will be able to tell when he/she is full. Closed mouth, sitting back, turning head, and pushing the spoon away are all sure tell signs.

Secondly, i've spoken with my pediatrician and other experts in this field, and this is what your child should be 'roughly' eating.

Cereal (4-6 months +), 2-4 tbsp twice daily.

Veggies (6 months +),4-6 tbsp a day.

Fruits (6 months +), 6-7 tbsp a day.

Juices (7-9 months it may be offered.)

Meat/Alt. (7-8 months +), 1-3 tbsp a day.

Milk Products (6-9 months +), 1-2 tbsp a day (plain yogurt (3.25% MF or higher), cottage cheese or grated hard cheese)

Finally, you can help create active and controlled eating with your child. Eating a nice paced meal will allow your child's tummy/brain to know its full at a proper time. Watching parents eat also plays an important role. If your child see's you eating 2 helpings, they will want the same.

Trust in your child in knowing what's the right amount for them.
